Architecture Flow:

  1. Stream Ingestion: Multi-camera RTSP video stream routing and gateway management.
  2. Live Monitoring: Low-latency multi-grid video rendering across 1x1 to 5x5 operator views.
  3. AI Inspection: Scheduled keyframe snapshots evaluated by local vision-language models.
  4. Audit & Alerts: Structured checklist validation recorded in an audit ledger with instant alerts and reports.

Project Overview

Vision Patrol is an autonomous visual-intelligence and virtual guard tour platform engineered to assist operators with alert monitoring in enterprise IP surveillance environments. In commercial facilities, warehouses, and industrial perimeters, conventional rule-based motion analytics often trigger nuisance alarms from headlights, insects, weather, or shadows.

As Lead Architect, I designed a multi-stage, GPU-oriented architecture combining real-time stream ingestion, multi-camera inference optimization, and local Visual Language Model (VLM) scene reasoning.

Operational Context & Edge Constraints

Physical security camera deployments operate under distinct practical constraints:

  1. Monitoring Latency: Security consoles and dispatch stations require low video latency to verify active perimeter events promptly.
  2. GPU Memory Boundaries: Running independent vision models simultaneously across multiple high-resolution video streams can exceed GPU memory and reduce throughput.
  3. Network Boundary Restrictions: Physical security policies in many commercial facilities restrict continuous outbound streaming of raw video feeds to public cloud services.

Core Architecture Decisions

1. Low-Latency Video Ingestion

  • Approach: Architected a low-latency edge streaming gateway with asynchronous keyframe sampling for real-time operator consoles.
  • Rationale: Decouples live operator playback from background AI frame inspection, ensuring smooth multi-grid monitoring during automated virtual patrol tours.

2. Multi-Stream Inference Optimization

  • Approach: Engineered multi-stream frame scheduling and batch optimization prior to VLM scene evaluation.
  • Rationale: Balances edge GPU utilization and maximizes camera density per workstation within strict VRAM and latency budgets.

3. Structured Audit Ledger & Dispatch Reporting

  • Approach: Designed an on-premises patrol event ledger pairing structured VLM security checklists with automated alert dispatch and compliance PDF generation.
  • Rationale: Delivers deterministic, tamper-resistant audit trails and immediate incident notifications without relying on external cloud storage services.

4. Air-Gapped Deployment & Access Governance

  • Approach: Built offline deployment verification and token-authenticated API controls for network-segregated environments.
  • Rationale: Supports secure operation on isolated customer workstations without requiring continuous outbound internet connectivity.

Operational Data Boundaries

  • Local Network Scope: Stream ingestion, frame decoding, and inference run within local network segments.
  • Cloud Egress Control: Primary camera feeds are processed on-premises rather than streamed continuously to external cloud services.
  • Input Validation: Configuration endpoints validate camera parameters, URL structures, and request tokens.
